Richton Park Veterans Day Parade

What a great day for a parade. The Village of Richton Park and VFW Post 311 had their annual Veterans Day Parade on Saturday. In all the years they have had this parade, I’ve only missed one. Despite the 24 degree weather, residents and supporters lined the parade route honoring those who have served this country. We also remembered the 100th anniversary of the end of “The War To End All Wars”; World War I. Today, 100 years ago, on the 11th hour of the 11th day, of the 11th month, the Armistice was signed. During his presidency Dwight D. Eisenhower renamed the commemoration “Veterans Day”; noting that the country had other conflicts after the original Armistice Day. My campaign committee distributed plenty of candy along the parade route to children and adults alike. They thanked me for my service as a veteran and as their State Representative. It was a pleasure thanking residents along the route for coming out in the cold with their children and families.
